Sulfonated polysulfone (sPS) reverse osmosis membranes are designed to resist mineral scaling during desalination operations. The work covers membrane synthesis, characterization of fouling and scaling mechanisms specific to sPS chemistry, and tailored cleaning procedures. Results address the current commercialization status of this advanced membrane material and its performance advantages in applications susceptible to carbonate, sulfate, and silica scaling.
