PFAS and PVDF – Filtering the Content of Emerging Regulations

Technological and regulatory challenges for PFAS treatment in membrane systems are addressed, with focus on polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membrane materials under evolving regulatory pressure. The presentation examines proposed EU restrictions on PFAS-containing materials and contrasts European and U.S. regulatory approaches to fluoropolymer use. Concerns regarding fluoropolymer health impacts are reviewed alongside viable PVDF alternatives for membrane manufacturing in anticipation of increasingly stringent regulatory requirements.
