MBR + RO – Review of Lessons Learned from Implementation and Operation of Potable Reuse Facilities

Lessons learned from full-scale implementation and long-term operation of potable water reuse facilities incorporating membrane bioreactor and reverse osmosis technologies are reviewed. MBR advantages including reliable pathogen log-reduction, compact footprint, and improved RO feed water quality are examined alongside challenges of RO implementation and pathogen credit development. Topics include dissolved solids and trace organic contaminant removal performance, and monitoring strategies to achieve regulatory compliance for direct and indirect potable reuse projects.
